Auto Accident Secrets
Avoid Pain, Anguish and Financial Ruin.
Protect yourself, are you covered?
Before an auto accident occurs, check your coverage, Utah is a no-fault state, which means regardless who is at fault for the accident your insurance will pay your medical bills. The minimum coverage in Utah is $3000 in PIP(Personal Injury Protection), however it really is quite inexpensive to raise that coverage to protect yourself. One example is coverage that was raised from 3,000 to 10,000 for only $3 more every month. If you are injured and require life flight to the hospital, and you have low pip coverage, you may have to pay for hospital bills if your pip is used up. Make sure you are covered, call your insurance agent today.
After an auto accident you may not be thinking clearly, so use read this guide so you know what do to before the accident, and keep a copy in your car.
Don't walk in to oncoming traffic.
Try to stay calm, and be nice, the accident already happened, making accusations doesn't help anyone. If you are hurt stay in the car. It isn't a good idea to walk around if you sustained a head injury. Shock can kill, so stay warm and calm, if your vision blurs or you feel sleepy, get an ambulance immediately.
File an Accident Report with the Police
Even in a minor accident it is important to make sure there is a legal accident report. DO NOT drive away if you are at the scene of an auto accident unless told to do so by a police officer, the vehicles should remain at the scene of an accident so the officer can determine what happened.
Discuss the Accident Only with the Police
With all of the post accident excitement it might be hard not to talk about what happened, but that can also lead to you not thinking clearly and accurately about what happened. It is important to limit your discussion of the accident and not to claim any fault or liability you don't know all of the facts. You should talk about the accident with the police and your insurance agent only.
The Facts, and nothing but the facts
It is important to get names, address, and phone numbers of everyone involved in the accident. A description of the car and license plate number can also be helpful, but make sure you also get their insurance company and the vehicle identification number of their car. A license plate number may not be enough.
Be absolutely sure to write this down, RIGHT AWAY, there are people that will wait for you to bend over to get into your glove box, and drive away, so get it before that happens.
Collect witness names, address, and phone numbers, don't let anyone leave without getting their information. Taking the information from their drivers license is the most reliable way, if they will allow you. Otherwise, at least get their license plate number.
Keep a disposable camera in the car and take pictures of the scene, the exterior and interior of both cars, airbag deployment, dents in the dash from head or knees, people in the other vehicle, any skid marks, visible injuries, and the location of the accident, including any defects in the road, or blocked or obstructed traffic signals.
Make notes as to the time of day, weather conditions, road conditions, street lights, and the presence or length of skid marks. Try to make a diagram noting the location of the vehicles, crosswalks, stop signs, and traffic signals.
Call you doctor of chiropractic
Call your doctor of chiropractic immediately, even at the scene with the police if possible. Sometimes the police officer can give your doctor more accurate information. The information you give may not be completely accurate at the time as you are upset and out of sorts. This can save much time and prevent problems with your claim.
Your doctor will help advise you as to what you should do, based on the extent of your injuries, they will recommend you go to Instacare, the Emergency Room, or come right into the office, after a consultation and examination your doctor will decide what best course of action would be. Your doctor of chiropractic may recognize injuries, sometimes serious, that are not readily apparent from the first Emergency Room visit nor to you, even at a later date.
Towing Your Car
Don't let them take your car without collecting some information. Get the name, address, license number, registration number, and telephone number of the driver and the towing company. Ask how much it will cost, and tell them where to take the car, avoid lot fees by having them take it to your auto body shop directly.
If someone shows up at your door the next day with a check, seek legal advice before signing it. This could close your case and end payment of your care.
If you are injured get medical attention immediately.
Although symptoms may surface several days later, it is important when you seek medical attention to provide the medical staff with an accurate history of the accident and all of the body parts which are causing pain. Please make sure any areas that show physical damage are photographed, by yourself and by medical staff.

Unfortunately,
Chiropractic is not yet available in most emergency rooms and medical
doctors are not trained to locate and correct spinal nerve stress. As
a result, millions of accident victims leave the hospital with as
much spinal nerve stress as they had when they entered. They may
continue to suffer for months, years or even decades afterward.
Chiropractic care helps restore nervous system function, helps heal sore muscles and damaged ligaments, and helps ensure rapid and complete recovery after an accident.
Anyone who has been in a traumatic automobile accident, even in the absence of obvious symptoms should have an Chiropractic examination. The damage from spinal nerve stress may take months or even years to surface. A simple Chiropractic exam and proper treatment can save an accident victim from much pain and disability later.
